I first met Lejend on the At It Again Tour in Las Vegas at Hip Hop Roots…then again at the show in Denton. Below is his new single “Have” featuring Opio (of Hieroglyphics) plus a brief interview I grabbed with the man himself.
Tell the people who you are and where you’re from.
My name is Lejend and I am an emcee/designer/poet out of Dallas,TX. I was born and raised in Dallas,TX. I have been able to travel so I think that has shaped me as a person and an artist.
What’s the scene like in Dallas? What other artists should we watch for?
I think it’s very unique because you have a vast array of talent but I think we get pigeonholed in the South. People don’t realize that there are so many styles in our city so when I travel people are surprised to hear I am from TX.
There are so many dope artists out here I know. If I had to narrow it down I would say check for Topic, a dope emcee/producer; Tekforce, another emcee/producer on nerd core shit but he’s mad hip hop too; two extremely dope producers my mans MSlago and Jlews Soul Rehab, they both have unique sound. I have done extensive work with both.
What inspired and motivated you to pursue music and specifically Hip Hop?
I think I was inspired by the feeling that Hip Hop gave me. I felt invincible but yet relatable to the experience that alot of emcees spoke on. Hip Hop shaped and molded my ideas and help me have insight to understand situations and emotions. Honestly I think Liquid Swordz by GZA really made me fall in love with this art form and understand its complexities.
Where can we connect with you online?
Any last thoughts? Shout outs?
