Tell the people who you are and where you’re from.
I am Charles Swarner aka Charlie Madness. I was born in Phx, AZ in 87′..lived in Germany for 3 yrs because my pops was military, moved to Las Vegas when I was 4 yrs old and been here in what I call MY CITY for 22 yrs now.
What’s the scene like in Vegas?
Ya know, many artists in my city complain about the scene here, I don’t!!!! I go out every day and do my best to change it. Promoters won’t pay artists well so I throw shows that will pay my performers. Many say nobody supports so I don’t only perform at hip hop venues, i hit art shows, festivals and make songs with musicians of other genres. Point is the scene is what you make it. I found my own scene and I feel like the results prove its working, then again diversity is a hard thing for some to grasp so I found my own lane.
What inspired and motivated you to pursue music and specifically Hip Hop?
My pops and my brother were huge influences in my music. I grew up with a mix of jazz country and death metal in my household!!! which is odd I came to hip hop. I always tried to find ways to stand out from my brother so I took the opposite route, first verse I ever heard was from C-murda. I was frightened and loved it…I’ve been writing my own verses ever since. I feel like I got my twist of story telling and positivity from the country jazz and metal influences.
I always wrote rhymes and freestyled at parks and school with friends but it was just a hobby. I hit 21 and realized I had to figure out what I wanted to do for the rest of my life so after trying a million things I realized the only passion I still had after doing it for sooo long was rapping, and its damn near the only thing im good at. I took some business of music courses at my local community college and learned the game and started dropping tracks. These days its the only thing I can think about. I eat, sleep, dream, wake up, drink again, and piss HIP HOP!!! This is my life and I will succeed!!
