Tell the people who you are and where you’re from.
The name is AdrenalineTruth and I am from Santa Fe, NM – representing four corners hip-hop to the fullest!
What’s the scenelike in Santa Fe? What other artists should we watch for?
Santa Fe has a long history of outstanding hip-hop shows, but in recent years we have seen a decline in decent venues. A lot of places that we used to call our home are no longer around, so it forces us to be creative when booking and performing in town.
Albuquerque, however, is always poppin’ off, and since it is only an hour away from us, we spend the majority of our time there for shows nowadays.
My focus, however, has been on building the scene in Santa Fe back up to its once prominent level. We have some amazing artists from Santa Fe that I am happy to call my friends. My group is called Sublmnl Rnsons with Cas Unoand Mr. UnXnown, and those guys are my bandit brothers. Also, I am part of bigger collectives like the Dezert Banditz and the Outstanding Citizens, who are always representing around the area.
Other artists to watch out here include Kron Jeremy, Grhymn, Diego Diablo, Zen Tempest, Exclucive, Oliver Twist, S@mmy C., Krazye, TBK and too many others to name.
What inspired and motivated you to pursue music and specifically Hip Hop?
When I was growing up I used to listen to hip-hop on the radio, but it never affected me in a profound way until I got to high school and discovered artists whose music really had substance behind it. I borrowed a CD collection from a friend and copied everything I could, and from there I was obsessed.
I started recording rough demos at 17 and haven’t looked back since. Attending my first live shows further amplified these emotions I was feeling, and I was fortunate enough to be exposed to some really dope musicians at an early stage in my life that it made me want to be like them. I am always progressing and hearing new music always makes me inspired to create.
My biggest influences as far as MCs go would have to be Nas, ATCQ, Jurassic 5, Aesop Rock, De La Soul, KRS-One, Atmosphere, POS, Talib Kweli and Immortal Technique. I prefer hip-hop that has substance and meaning behind it and I appreciate MCs who say what is on their mind without feeling the need to cater to a mainstream audience.
Where can we connect with you online?
I utilize all social media, but I encourage everyone out there to check out my radio show on Soundcloud, “The All New Mexico Hip-Hop Hour“. This is the first show that showcases all original hip-hop from all over New Mexico, giving a lot of artists their first chance at being heard on the air. This is something I have been developing for a long time and collecting tracks for and I am very excited to finally bring this radio show to life. Also, check out my videos on YouTube, there is a lot of cool hip-hop on there.
Any last thoughts? Shout outs?
Special thanks to J.Smo & Mr. P. Chill for connecting with me while they were on tour, I am glad we got to rock with you guys. Big shout outs to all the Dezert Banditz, and also all the homies I started rapping with (Danzk8, Benzo, Allegory, Wolfman Jack). The OC crew (Fluid, Doer, Sniper J, McDuff) and also artists that have shown us mad love (Dmize, Sepsis, Definition Rare, Ill Methods, DJ PA aka ALLDAY, Ezra Letra). Also, huge shout outs everyone that that believes in our music, supports us and keeps us going. We could not do this without you and I hope that anyone in the area comes and checks out our live shows because we are always doing something different and fresh. Dezert Banditz will be touring the four corners area and beyond later in the year, so be on the look out for that!
